Natural Tresses Natural Hair Studio Biography
Charmaine, Executive Image Consultant
Charmaine holds a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from Judson University and a MNM (Master of Non-profit Management) with concentrations in Program Management and Humane Administration from Regis University. She has over 25 years of experience in natural hair. She began braiding hair at the tender age of 5 and began to take hair serious at age 15. Neighborhood mothers would bring their young daughters to Charmaine to braid their hair for school, special events, and summer break when Charmaine was a mere teen. Her God sister's, Carlotta "Lolly" G. and Debrice "Debbie" S. of Detroit, are her mentors who she learned and acquired much of her craft for African hair designing during summer vacations that she spent with them as a child.
She never let her passion for designing and caring for natural hair go by the way side. She regularly found herself attracting individuals to her who wanted her to braid, loc, or style their natural hair. She worked in salons in South Florida (while continuing to work in the non-profit sector) prior to making the decision to open her own salon there. There is no stopping her! She currently has a dual career and is extremely focused while working both as the Executive Image Consultant for Natural Tresses NHS and as the Program Director for a non-profit organization in San Francisco.
Charmaine's love and commitment to natural hair care has earned her affectionate titles from others in the industry like, "Charloc and Loc-ologist." Her creativity and passion for hair goes without saying but most importantly her heart for people and helping them to become more self aware, comfortable, happy with their hair and with who they are as a uniquely created individual is her God given gift. Her motto and company tag line is "My hair isn't nappy it's natural." Charmaine says," I am living my purpose because I am doing what God has called and gifted me to do and it NEVER feels like work; not even if I have been at it for 15 hours or better."
